Pedals & Thorns

About

If I were to be a structure, I would be a plain white house with high windows. If there were to be visitors, they would have to knock multiple times on my door before I would open to the interior of the house.

yongguk was talkin about how he doesnt listen to any of the things jongup writes cause “hes not really songwriting yet” like yongguk is obv pretentious artistic douchebag supreme

he can throw down a shitton of money to tat ‘viva la revelucion’ in huge letters on his chest when he could’ve spent that money to idk fund an actual revolution or just fuckin help someone? and he used the account they had been using to save up money to open a school in b.a.p’s name to buy a laptop, because his art is more important than the education of potentially hundreds of children and he can’t do his songwriting on anything less than a macbook pro. talks about liberating children but wears clothes/mass consumes things made in sweatshops/conflict items.

i appreciate the sentiment behind what he does, but there’s not even active intent behind it or it seems like he’d do some fucking research and use his idolship to promote active/helpful charities and push fair trade clothing/items. like, if you’re gonna do the whole ‘motivated hipster’ thing, do it right. ur on a plane for sixteen hours at a time and ur label pays for the airline wifi and you don’t have time to google this shit? come on. ‘i watch the news and write songs about the injustice in the world’ doesn’t make you a renegade, not anymore, not when it’s so obvious that most media outlets are corrupt.

it’d be great if he’d stop patting himself on the back for things and continue to make progress instead. i didn’t know about the jongup thing, though, and honestly it kind of hurts my feelings. you’d figure he’d be nurturing artistic ventures and progressive thoughts in the other members instead of not giving them attention until ‘they’re on his level’ like what the fuck (do you happen to have a link to when he said that by the way)

Not to mention his tweet about how the music they make is too deep for his fans to understand.

Oh, and also about the one where he said their music is shit and he wishes he was making underground music again because it ‘mattered’.

Like excuse fucking ME. First off, we’re not retarded. I understood Badman immediately and it’s still one of my favourite songs and albums from BAP.

Secondly HOW FUCKING DARE YOU say that the music you make is shit now. Because you have a kid (Zelo) who looks up to you more than anything in this world, you have an amazing friend who has stayed by your every statement (Himchan), you have a vocalist who you push way too fucking hard but he slays it every time anyway (Daehyun), you have a vocalist who has gone through so much to prove he’s good too (Youngjae), and you have a young dancer that you oversexualize with his stripping and such even when HE was underage but nobody but Zelo mattered then, somebody who has made your choreography and has become a much much better vocalist than in the beginning and tries so hard to be good enough for you (Jongup).

I am a huge BAP stan but honestly I’ve had enough of Yongguk’s shit.

YO HEY I see your point and agree with you a lot but please, please don’t use an ableist slur like that, okay?

I saw this post and part of me wants to ignore it but a bigger part of me is telling me to set some things straight.

When I saw Yongguk’s response that he doesn’t read what Jongup writes, I cringed. It came off as very rude and somewhat elitist. Basically, I was NOT okay at all with the fact that Yongguk said something like that to a young and aspiring songwriter regardless of whether this was his way of joking or there being some massive inside joke about Jongup’s music.

BUT that is not a gateway for you to pull faulty facts out in an attempt to label Yongguk as a money-squandering hypocrite.

"he can throw down a shitton of money to tat ‘viva la revelucion’ in huge letters on his chest when he could’ve spent that money to idk fund an actual revolution or just fuckin help someone?"

The tattoo parlor that he had that tattoo done is either owned or managed by his sister and her boyfriend/husband. In fact, he also had the one on his arm done at that parlor too. I can’t say with absolute certainty, but I highly doubt that he “threw down a shitton of money” for it.

Also, even if he did pay a lot of money for it, are you really questioning how he spends his own money? That he earned? That small amount of money that idols so painstakingly earn after their companies take a majority of the profit to pay for costs?

"and he used the account they had been using to save up money to open a school in b.a.p’s name to buy a laptop, because his art is more important than the education of potentially hundreds of children and he can’t do his songwriting on anything less than a macbook pro.”

Again, this is the money that he earned through years of training, sleepless nights, and back to back performances. Being a fan, does not, IN ANY WAY, give you the right to pry into his finances. Why are you people writing it so that Yongguk can’t spend any money on himself? Do you even see how faulty your logic is?

To add to that, I wonder how he makes that money? Through his art. Making music is his job. It’s also what he loves doing. We don’t know what or how he was composing before he got his Macbook Pro. This could be a major upgrade for him. Why isn’t he allowed to have nice things? Does being an altruist mean that you have to dress in paper towels and eat cardboard so that every penny you earn can go to helping people? It’s a bit of an exaggeration, but I hope it gets my point across.

talks about liberating children but wears clothes/mass consumes things made in sweatshops/conflict items.

i appreciate the sentiment behind what he does, but there’s not even active intent behind it or it seems like he’d do some fucking research and use his idolship to promote active/helpful charities and push fair trade clothing/items

God forbid we succumb to the rampant capitalism that dominates society nowadays. I have a question — have you stopped wearing/using anything and everything that was produced in a sweatshop? (This isn’t like me asking you if you can sing after you criticize a singer because singers are expected to be able to sing. Idols, on the other hand, are not expected to be sweatshop-free although it is praiseworthy if they do.) If you have stopped doing so, then you should know how hard it is to avoid sweatshop-produced items, especially in Asia, where almost everything you see in stores is mass produced through sweatshops (although this is based on personal experience, so if anybody knows otherwise, please let me know!).

Yongguk’s penchant for somewhat provocative clothing is indeed an issue, especially some of his shirts from Black Scale and Obey, which depict religious symbols in a non-religious context as well as other controversial issues. If anyone is curious, check out here and here (includes all members).

Aside from this, I think Yongguk does a good job of using his idolship to promote charity and act as an activist. Here are a couple of tweets (up until March 12) that I pulled from his twitter:

Unicef (x) (x) (x) (x)

Greenpeace/Protect Paradise (x) (x) (x) (x)

United Nations [which isn’t a charity but it raises awareness] (x)

And his own personal tweets about foreign issues (x) (x)

If your argument is that he’s not doing anything to promote charity, then you are very obviously wrong. Otherwise, you’re criticizing him for not doing enough of something that he is not even obligated to do. (To be clear, wanting him to do more is different from criticizing him for not doing to enough.)

"like, if you’re gonna do the whole ‘motivated hipster’ thing, do it right. ur on a plane for sixteen hours at a time and ur label pays for the airline wifi and you don’t have time to google this shit? come on. ‘i watch the news and write songs about the injustice in the world’ doesn’t make you a renegade, not anymore, not when it’s so obvious that most media outlets are corrupt."

You make it sound like Yongguk does all of this to put on some kind of facade of, as you so call it, a “motivated hipster”. If you read the news and see that a certain city is being bombed or that people committing heinous crimes have not yet been punished, you can feel anger or be moved despite all of the corruption of media outlets. Also, not once has Yongguk ever declared that he was a renegade so please don’t put the words in his mouth. As fans, we only have confirmation based on what they say and do.

it’d be great if he’d stop patting himself on the back for things and continue to make progress instead.

Ah yes, Yongguk must be so proud of himself for donating to charity and raising awareness among his fans. To my knowledge, Yongguk has never brought up his altruistic activities on his own. On radio shows and in interviews, he only talks about it if he is prompted to. If you can find evidence otherwise, I will gladly eat my words.

Not to mention his tweet about how the music they make is too deep for his fans to understand.

Like excuse fucking ME. First off, we’re not retarded. I understood Badman immediately and it’s still one of my favourite songs and albums from BAP.

I have never seen nor did I find any tweets talking about how his music was too deep for his fans. I believe there might have an instance in which he mentioned it in a video that he had been approached by fans during a fansign who could not comprehend it. B.A.P’s fanbase in Korea is composed primarily of girls in their early teens. It would not be unusual for some of them to be confused by the lyrics. To my knowledge, Yongguk has NEVER generalized the BABY fanbase by saying that none of us understand his intent or that we’re too dumb to comprehend his songs. He has, however, said on multiple occasions that he respects us. Please base your arguments off of the things he actually says.

Oh, and also about the one where he said their music is shit and he wishes he was making underground music again because it ‘mattered’.

Secondly HOW FUCKING DARE YOU say that the music you make is shit now.

Here are two translations for what he tweeted that one time:

놀 시간에 곡 하나 더 만들어야지 남들이 좋다는거 말고 내꺼

In the time that I can be playing, I should make another song. Not something people say they like, but my own

외모따위 신경 쓸 시간에 쓰는 16마디가 내겐 더 진짜 금 다들 신경쓰지말고 음악 좀 들읍시다

In the time I can think of looks, the 16 words I write are more like real gold to me. Let’s all not care and just listen to music please

제발

Please

and

Rather than spending my time having fun, I should write another song. Not what everyone else likes, but mine. The 16 words/bars that are written in replacement of the time spent on taking care of the outer appearance is much more precious to me like a gold. Let’s listen to music instead of paying too much attention to the appearance. Please. Hip-Hop.

(x)

He doesn’t say that he wants to go back to underground rap and he definitely does not say his current music is shit. His tweets seem to be more directed at his lack of control over his art and how his appearance is more important than his music. Although it might be inferred that he misses working underground, what’s wrong with that? What’s wrong with him being unsatisfied with where he is? Is that a right you lose once you become an idol?

shinjukugewalt:

um yes

namja with an ankh, i do not fuck with him at all on any level lmao

you have a young dancer that you oversexualize with his stripping and such even when HE was underage but nobody but Zelo mattered then, somebody who has made your choreography and has become a much much better vocalist than in the beginning and tries so hard to be good enough for you (Jongup).

AH YES, YONGGUK! THAT DASTARDLY DEVIL! SHAME ON HIM FOR ALWAYS OVERSEXUALIZING JONGUP! (see 0:24 in this interview

THAT’S RIGHT! ONLY ZELO EXISTS IN YONGGUK’S MIND! I BET HE DOESN’T GIVE TWO SHITS ABOUT JONGUP (see 1:55 of this radio show and this for another translation)

TL;DR I don’t agree with everything Yongguk says and does. But if you’re going to criticize him for something, please make it based on solid facts.

I don’t care if this gets me a lot of hate. If you have something to say to me or evidence that proves any of my points wrong, please feel free to let me know.
